Stenciling

Introduction

Many of us have dabbled in stenciling, adding a few bits to a wall, or perhaps a border around a room. But not all of us have endless wall surfaces to cover with our creativity. Even if we do - we want to make those areas special - very personal. Something that no one but us could have done.

Beyond Stenciling takes you beyond the basics, introducing you to new tools and new media that will take your stenciling from the ordinary to the extraordinary.

Not only will we look at new ways to embellish the walls, but also at ways to use stencils amd templates on our clothing and other household textiles, and even on glass.

Each medium calls for a slightly different approach. This course builds on that, so that once you have mastered stenciling on hard surfaces with new tools and paint media you will feel comfortable moving on to fabric, and once you have become accustomed to the slightly different techniques that you need to stencil fabric, you'll be ready to start turning plain glass into something beautiful, or whimsical - whatever your style may be.

By the way - if you're new to stenciling and haven't already done so, take a look at Stenciling 101 so you can get all the basics down. And if you really enjoy playing with paint and creativity, you may also want to look at two other of our courses. Try Faux Painting by Cheryl Lewis - not only because it relates to this one as a creative way to use paint but because it will be invaluable to you when doing murals that need backgrounds - and is such an easy way to do exciting things with paint.

And be sure to check out Jo Murphy's course on Visual Literacy - especially written for those of us who think we can't draw. I know a lot of us turned to stencils because we lacked drawing skills. Jo has a way of taking the fear out of that, unlocking your creativity and helping you to do things you never thought you could, Go ahead - try it!
