IntroductionFor anyone who is interested in breast health, this course should be valuable. It will include a general overview of healthy breasts, the myths circulating about breast cancer and then the meat of the course: the journey through breast cancer, from diagnostic tests through surgery, adjuvant therapies, such as chemotherapy, radiation and/or hormonal therapy. Reconstruction, alternative medicine and the psychological aspects of the disease, as well as the impact on family and friends will be discussed. We'll try to touch on what's new on the research horizon and what to expect once your treatment is over. A sampling of good resources on the subject of breast cancer will be included for those of you who want greater detail.
For the newly diagnosed patient, little helpful "tricks of the trade" from the ladies who have "been there, done that" can make the difference in your attitude and coping with the side effects of breast cancer. But please remember, this course is for everyone who wants more general knowledge about breast cancer. You don't have to be a breast cancer patient or survivor to participate, but we welcome your input, whether you are a patient, survivor, advocate, family member, friend or co-worker. Breast cancer affects us all. LessonsClick here to see course syllabus |
