IntroductionMy Grandmother used to say having a baby was the easiest part of being a parent. She was absolutely right. And that was 40 years ago. As parents, we face an extraordinarily complex and stressful world. Struggling to make ends meet, we find the quality of life slipping away. Yet our children need us. They need our guidance and help in developing into moral, ethical adults. They need us to look up to and give them the sense of security all children need. This course is designed to help parents, grandparents and caregivers develop the skills needed to help children become happy productive adults. Lessons begin with a basic self assessment of our own behavior for children mirror us to a surprising extent. We'll move through guides and tools for becoming more effective as a parent, setting goals and building character. A central focus of the course is how to build on and improve family communication. Anger management will help parents learn how to effectively handle their child's anger, and how to encourage them to find better ways to express it. Part of being a parent is helping children face the tough, tough realities of issues like drugs and alcohol, AIDS, terrorism and death. Learning how and when to begin broaching these topics, will help you find your own individual way of talking with your children about them. As part of this course, discussion groups, chats and other resources will be there to help and support you. Together, we can make a real difference in our childrens lives.
