British Dark & Middle Ages

The so-called 'Dark Ages' were a time of violence, as native and invading tribes evolved into the four countries which make up the British Isles, But they were also a time of extraordinary sophisitcation, as the great prehistoric monumens of Stonehenge, Callanish and Newgrange bear witness along with the treasures wrought by the Vikings, Saxons and Celts.

As the islands' struggles continued, struggles continued . The constituent parts of the Isles remained interlocked: English influence extended into Wales and Ireland, while Scotland, a separate kingdom, remained vulnerable to English influence and always aware of the presence of its larger southern neighbour.

The Dark and Middles Ages in Britain have given us some of our best-known stories and wonderful monumens and are worthy of further exploration.
