It all started in 1955 when an advertising misprint by Sears Roebuck & Co. had children calling the wrong number by mistake to find out where Santa was. Fifty-one years later, NORAD, which had that misprinted number, is still helping to track Santa for children, big and small.
NORAD is the bi-national U.S.-Canadian military organization responsible for the aerospace defense of the United States and Canada. So it makes sense that they would be the first to know when Santa and his reindeer reached North American air space. Using a sophisticated system of radar, satellites and "Santa cams" NORAD tracks Santa's progress until he reaches us, and then special Santa cam-equipped jet fighters are dispatched to escort Santa around.
It's all great fun to watch and I think kids will enjoy seeing one of the greatest travelers of all time - Santa - as he makes his rounds this year.
