We've all heard them. Frightening news stories that make us feel reluctant about allowing our children to enjoy some of the pleasures we delighted in as children. Among the delights many of us worry about is Halloween. Take heart. You need not do away with the tradition; just reinvent it.
The Dallas Morning News recently reported on a new Halloween tradition. Instead of going door to door, some children are going car to car to load up on Halloween treats. Yes, Trick or Treating has been reinvented as a whole family affair.
According to the DMN the traditional event, for many, has morphed into one that is, "part trick-or-treating, part tailgating and part friendly competition, families are finding trunk or treating a safe alternative to the Halloween tradition of children strolling through neighborhoods in the dark..." Children enjoy collecting treats and goodies; and with a chance to decorate their cars and offer edible, as well as fun treats, parenting enjoy their chance to put their creative and competitive skills to the test.
Are you looking for a way to be more involved in creating safe Halloween fun for your child and have a little fun at the same time? Why not consider trunk or treating? You can do it in the parking lot of a local church, school, or mall. You can keep your eyes on your children, and enjoy a family friendly tailgating type party. Why not? Enjoy!
