Here are the words of Tim Fischer regarding the fate of Aboriginal people. Bear in mind that these are the words of the deputy Prime Minister of Australia.
'At no stage did Aboriginal civilisation develop substantial buildings, roadways or even a wheeled cart... Dispossession was bound to happen... Those in the guilt industry have to consider that developing cultures and peoples will always overtake relatively stationary cultures.'
(The Australian 22.6.93, page 8)
There were many accusations of bigotry and racism over this, but Mr Fischer was defended from these accusations by the Prime Minister John Howard, who supported his comments.
(The Courier-Mail; 9.7.93, page 2)
(Sorry about the references - I just thought this sounded too outrageous to be true.)
Is it any wonder that this country has the most shocking poverty and human rights abuses in Indigenous communities, if Indigenous policy is grounded in these irretrievably racist ideologies?
If you want to see how bad things have become for Australian Aborigines under this racist government, check out my article Aboriginal Poverty Statistics.
