In 1978, this fella called Said said that colonialism is based on westerners examining indigenous societies to steal knowledge that can be used as a form of power deployed against the very indigenous subjects being studied. Bear this is mind when reading my article Indigenous Culture Study.
In 1993, Said also said that post-colonial thinking and analysis are tools for rethinking and reshaping colonial knowledge and social identies built on oppressive colonial systems. Central to this is the idea that modernity is central to the colonial project of domination.
This links post-modernism with post-colonialism. As such, much of this site could be described as both post-modernist and post-colonialist. However, these are supposed to describe institutional and global conditions after a period of colonisation, and many articles in this site argue quite strongly that colonisation is still going strong.
As such, most contributors to this site might be broadly described as anti-colonial, rather than post-colonial.
