Here are a couple of quotes from readers about my recent (controversial) article New Age vs Native Rights. (I've only included the positive ones!)
"I am honored to be able to read your words Tyson. You have great wisdom that I thank you for sharing with us. I think you've hit the nail on the head with the statements I've quoted above. As I too see these things in the manner of which you speak. I know of many who "talk the talk" but have no intention of "walking the walk." I know a man who carries a Canunpa (pipe) in a questionable manner and refuses (in a rude way) to attend proper ceremony when invited. He will also not tell me where his Canunpa is from, or who gave it to him. A friend of mine likes to call this cultural appropriation. Those that are not indigenous and are called to indigenous paths need to approach them with respect and humility. Otherwise it is nothing but fluff and ego gratification....."
"The "woo woo" factor is hige here in Arizona. New-agers have taken a beautiful and sacred area here, Sedona, and turned it into woo-woo-central. Southern Arizona in general seems to attract the new age metaphyisical weirdos in droves. They charge huge amounts of money to the gullible, calling themselves 'shamans' (oh, how I HATE that word...), lead them around the desert banging drums and sitting in sweats, chanting nonsense and acting like fools. Say one thing against them and they will attack like a starving pack of wolves."
