Lapu Lapu Freedom Fighter

...

Here's the response from a reader who selected "other" in the Greatest Indigenous Warriors poll.

"In response to your poll question, I picked "OTHER" for "Lapu Lapu" from the Philippines. He stood up to Magellan's attempted occupation of the Philippines with nothing more than poisoned arrows and spears and killed the conquistador and several of his men. Of course, it didn't do much to alter the overall history of the Philippines, as the Spanish later "colonized" it and left their usual trail of corruption to this day.

I love your ballsy site! Congrats on being able to openly speak your mind about these issues.

Sincerely,

Portia Lino Watkins"

Thanks Portia. I've been working on an article on the Phillipines, but it's such a long and complicated history - the research is taking me forever.

And thanks for calling my site "ballsy". I like the term, although I've often wondered what the female equivalent would be. "Ovarian", perhaps. In that case, thank you for your contribution about Lapu Lapu - it was really ovarian.
