This week we have a guest writer, an Indigenous teacher from a remote Aboriginal community on Cape York, Australia. My sister, Phyllis Yunkaporta, is one of a handful of local people to have achieved a tertiary qualification in a town with the lowest education outcomes on the Cape. She and other local school workers have stated what needs to be done to be done to turn the horrific outcomes around, but to date their recommendations around Indigenous language and pedagogy have not been acted upon by the outsiders who make the decisions in their school community. Check out her article Education Rights to find out more.
