I still love the Who. And by stating as much, I mean the band that performed between 1963 and 1978. I cannot say that I have much interest in the new music that Pete Townsend is writing for the band. Yes, he is the great songwriter. He seems to be one of the few major rockstars to understand the feelings of the fans (cf. "Sally Simpson" from "Tommy"), apart from letting the band drag on beyond its expiry date. And this is what leads me to dismiss anything yet to be heard.
Ahh, Keith. Keith, Keith, Keith... Did we ever know you? You had a good voice for crooning (evident on film and vinyl)and you lived a life that knew no id. And I have to say it - sounding older than I actually am - WE NEED YOU MORE TODAY THAN EVER BEFORE!!!! There are no madmen in music now. Too many performers worry about the bottom line and would not think about trashing their instruments. Where are this generations true samplers of chaos? They are all hiding behind passivity or bling. All we have now are the albums.
Yes, I called him my doppelganger. I wanted to be him at one point, especially when I felt that people were not paying attention. His anarchic life had its own kind of courage. We should not forget this.
