We have a Netflix membership. The other day I was curious to see whether they have a category just for tweens.
They do! If you type tweens into the search function you land on a page called Tween Faves. I thought their description of the tween movie collection was perfect:
No matter how much you'd like them to stay little, the only thing kids want is to grow up. Ease them into the teen years with these wholesome heroes and heroines.
Here are a few of the titles they recommend for tweens. You can use the ratings websites I’ve listed below to determine if these titles satisfy a tween’s need to feel a little grown-up and a parent’s need for them to do it slowly:
Princess Diaries
The Parent Trap
Freaky Friday
Double, Double, Toil and Trouble
Ice Princess
Big Fat Liar
Cadet Kelly
Aquamarine
Herbie: Fully Loaded
It Takes Two
Agent Cody Banks
This kind of list can be tricky to navigate. Often movies listed for tweens are actually meant for the teen audience. Using the ratings system helps. I also look movies up on one of these sites to check out content:
Screen It (my favorite – it tells you everything you need to know)
So, tell us. What movies do you AND your tween love? Join the discussion.
