It seems that everyday individuals and businesses are bombarded with messages to go green, reduce your carbon footprint and consider the impact on the planet. Honourable sentiments but how can a business turn rhetoric into reality.
There is a simple solution to reducing business impact on the environment and that is for all businesses to adopt green business practices. A good starting point for implementing green business practices is to review current work practices and develop environmental policies and procedures in line with the guidelines in ISO 14001 - Environmental Management Systems standard.
Undertaking a review of current practices may find that production methods that could be updated to become environmentally sustainable or if you operate a service business you may wish to consider carbon offsetting.
As well as promoting environmental sustainability, green business practices have positive economic benefits for workers and communities. Deborah Hildebrand has written an interesting article on the benefits of green jobs - Why Green Jobs are Great for the Community.
Going green in business doesn't have to be hard work!
