Well, our first two weeks of school are over. We have made it. This year, we are tackling a new curriculum, much more involved than we have ever done before. How is it going?
The oldest, age 8, loves what he is learning, but is not thrilled with the amount of writing he has to do. The 6-year-old is content. The 4-year-old is demanding equal school time, and is determined this is the year he will read.
Alas, books are not the only aspect of homeschooling. The house definitely looks more worn than it did in the summer. The dirty clothes are stacking up. Today, we made our first major trip to the grocery store in more than two weeks (and yes, there is a lot to learn when you challenge your kids to make meals with the only five things left in the pantry!).
One big change this year: the kids are old enough and I am experienced enough to included them in more routine household cleaning. We are starting a new schedule, where they help me with different chores three days a week. So far, so good. My house is never perfect, but it can get downright chaotic during the school year. Since we really live in our house almost seven days a week, the kids need to help in order to keep their mother sane! This week look for articles on how to help include your kids in your daily routine. It helps teach the kids (home ec anyone?), helps lighten your extra work (the joys of child labor), and benefits the entire family (no contract necessary, no tips required).
Have fun!
