Dress Like A Pirate
Stores are full of expensive pirate costumes from the latest Pirate movie. You do not need to spend your doubloons on them. Instead, make your own pirate togs.
- Give your child an old long sleeved, button down work shirt - the longer, the better. They can tie it around their waist. Girls can wear a very long skirt.
- Tie an old scrap of fabric around the head. Or, make a do-rag!
- Make an eye-patch out of black construction paper, fabric, or felt. Tie around the head with string or elastic.
- Make an earring out of cardboard, cover with aluminum foil, and loop over top of the ear.
- Make a hook - Draw and cut a nice sized hook out of sturdy cardboard. Be sure to leave a narrow strip at the opposite end from the hook. Get a styrofoam cup big enough to fit your hand in. (I tried a plastic cup, but they were too hard to cut). Cut a slit in the bottom of the cup. Place the narrow strip of the hook through the slit in the cup. Cover the hook with aluminum foil. Now you have a great looking hook for a hand. Make sure to use safety and caution with the hook! It is not sharp, but we still want to be safe!
Now you can look swash-buckling and adventurous! Be sure to check out our Pirate Lesson Plans!
