Terrorist suspects residing at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, are headed for a quick prosecution now that President Bush signed a law authorizing a green light for military trials. The new legislation eliminates significant rights that defendants are usually guaranteed under U.S. law.
The controversial bill authorizes the continuation of harsh interrogations of terror suspects. In June, the Supreme Court ruled against Bush, and deemed trying the detainees in military tribunals violated U.S. and international law.
The American Civil Liberties Union believes this law is one of the worst civil liberties measures ever enacted in American History. In local press, leading Democrats have used the bill as an example of the administrations inability to understand peace, and have declared it as a violation of American values.
