Household Safety for Cats

Even as long as I’ve had cats, I’m amazed at the safety issues that I run across every day involving my kitties. As I began thinking about how many little things around the house can hurt our kitties, I thought I’d share a list with you.

  • Bread twist ties (danger to intestines)
  • Thumb tacks or straight pins from the bulletin board (strangulation and puncture)
  • String or fringe on any blanket (danger to intestines)
  • Small rocks brought in on the bottom of your shoes (choking)
  • Chemical drips on the side of cleaning bottles (toxic)
  • Glass items on shelves (cuts)
  • Plastic bags (suffocation)
  • Staples in cardboard boxes (puncture)
  • Miniblind pull strings (strangulation)
  • Small pieces of children’s toys (choking)
  • Small balls (choking)
  • Coins! (choking)
  • Houseplants (toxic)
  • Any and all electrical cords, of course (strangulation)

Are there things you’ve thought of that aren’t listed here? Please drop by the discussion area and share with us!
