Simone de Beauvoir

Simone de Beauvoir (1908-1986), was a French philosopher and feminist writer. A leader of modern existentialism and feminist movement, she studied and graduated from Sorbonne and garnered second place in the finals to Jean-Paul Sartre, who became her lifelong partner and professional associate.

De Beauvoir's dedication to improving women's lives led to her writing the immensely popular but highly controversial two-volume text The Second Sex.

The sad plight of the elderlies who also faced similar prejudices and neglect was given focus in her 1972 book The Coming of Age.

Beauvoir wrote her autobiography in four volumes.
