Pablo Neruda, Chilean Poet

Great Thinkers Datebook: July 12 Today, July 12 (1904), is the birthday of Pablo Neruda, Chilean poet, diplomat and politician. He is considered the 20th century's most important Latin American poet. He is famous for his collection of poems "Veinte poemas de amor y una cancion desesperada" (Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair) published in 1924. Neruda was awarded the 1971 Nobel Prize in Literature.
