George Washington (1732-1799), American General and statesman, First President of the U.S.A

Born: February 22, 1732.

Washington was called the "Father of His Country," born at Westmoreland colony, Virginia. He married Martha Dandridge Custis. They had no children. He was born into a wealthy planter family, became a surveyor and charted lands in western Virginia. He inherited large estates, including Mount Vernon.

George Washington fought in the last wars of the French and Indian Wars.

Trivia: He delivered the shortest inaugural address ever. It was only 133 words long and took 90 seconds to deliver.
