- Bertrand (Arthur William) Russell, (1872-1970), was a British philosopher and mathematician who wrote numerous books on various topics including the theory of knowledge, mathematical logic, and social issues. - Rudolph Carnap (1891-1970), was a German philosopher, an advocate of logical positivism. A member of the Vienna Circle and recognized as a founder of logical postivism, he came to the US from Europe in 1936. He was coeditor of the Journal of Unified Science wiht Hans Reichenbach, he wrote on the theory of probability, theory of knowledge, mathematical logic, and the philosophy of science.
