Too often Mexican falls into two categories in this country, Tex-Mex and Cali-Mex, neither of which really taste like authentic Mexican food. Both are great and have their place, but as a side-effect, most Mexican restaurants take either a Tex-Mex or Cali-Mex approach to Mexican cuisine.
In Framingham, MA -- one of the Chowhound's, Jim Leff's, favorite food towns-- there is the Aztec. An authentic Mexican restaurant that attracts everyone from every walk of life: businessmen, IT folks, construction workers, restaurant staff staff from other local eateries all flock to this gem.
The restaurant features everything you'd expect: burritos, nachos, chimichangas, tacos, and Mexican beer. What makes this place different is that the burritos are actually wrapped in corn tortillas and stuffed to the brim with rice, meat, cheese, and very little else. The tacos are served the way you find at road side stands in Mexico, two small corn tortillas with meat and sauce with radish and onion for garnish.
The prices are reasonable. Most plates are between $5-8 with some of the larger combo platters going for around $12 (you should definitely split this with another person unless you want to bring some home).
Located at 2 Waverly Street Framingham, MA this is a must go area if you need to satisfy a craving for Mexican.
