Turkey Bowl Tennis Tourney

You can sit home eating turkey or you can lace ‘em up and git after it on the courts at the 22nd Annual Turkey Bowl in Boca Raton at the Swim & Racquet Center from November 21 - 25. Why would you give up all that turkey, stuffing, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, sweet potato pie, and all the other goodies? Well if you can seriously smash the rock, I mean really pound the fuzzy yellow pebble, then $2k just might be worth it. That’s the minimum guaranteed prize money to the Men’s Open winner.

No, this isn’t a sexist event; the Women’s Open winner gets some cash too. It’s just that we don’t know how much, because the women’s draws tend to be a bit less populous than the men’s, so that prize money has to be determined after entries close. Same deal for the Men’s Doubles draw. The bottom line is that winning this thing, or even doing well, will enhance your bottom line.

But even if you aren’t some hot shot junior, a college sensation on vacation, or gunning for the ATP or WTA tour, you can get in on the fun at the Turkey Bowl. Even old duffers like me can serve ‘em up in the NTRP events. Men from 3.0 – 5.0 and women from 3.0 – 4.5 can burn off some of that turkey dinner, because those events start on Friday. Eat 5lbs worth on Thursday and lose 10 on the weekend. Sounds like a deal to me.

After munching on moist turkey breast with crispy, golden skin (Cuz Michael and Aileen can do that fried turkey!), I plan to head out to the Swim and Racquet Center to (pardon me) gobble up the competition. This time, I won’t be no choka in Boca!
