Writing for Greeting Card Companies

Ever read a greeting card and thought to yourself "I could do way better than this"? Well, the truth is you too can write greeting cards for somebody other than your great aunt. Many smaller greeting card companies pay per selected greeting card submission.

First, figure out what type of greeting card poetry best suits your style of writing. Some companies are only looking for sweet, universal poetry while others want nothing but crude humor. One thing most greeting card companies agree on: stay away, far away, from rhyming poetry.

Larger greeting card companies like Hallmark and American Greetings do not pay contract and freelance writers for submissions because they have teams of creative writers, but smaller companies like Blue Mountain Arts (which pays $300 per selected poem) publish mainly freelance written material.
