Take one week, add several hundred hours of cartoons, throw in fascinating conversations with some of animation's movers and shakers (and one or two moved and shaken), remove over 24 hours of sleep, and you'll have my week at the Ottawa International Animation Festival.
Naturally, I've documented my time there for my faithful readers. Here's what you can expect to see in the next few days:
- I review feature films: Bill Plympton's Idiots and Angels, Nina Paley's Sita Sings the Blues, the CGI flick Terra and Ari Folman's controversial Waltz With Bashir. I'll also introduce you to some of the animated shorts that blew my mind at the fest.
- Animation historian Karl F. Cohen talks about the sordid history of propaganda animation in an exclusive interview.
- I'll also have exclusive interviews with Doug Sweetland (the director of the Pixar short "Presto"), David Polonsky (animation director on Waltz With Bashir), Neil Burns (director of Edison & Leo), Doeri Welch-Greiner (production manager on the new Disney short "Glago's Guest"), Seth Green and Matthew Senreich (co-creators of Robot Chicken), and animation legend Richard Williams (animation director on Who Framed Roger Rabbit).
It's all great stuff, so stick around.
P.S. - Many thanks to OIAF staffers Josh and Jennifer for all their help at the Fest.
