Ray Emery turned aside 43 of 45 shots he faced, more than a few of which will be on everyone's highlight reel. Jason Spezza extended his point streak to 10 games, scoring two beautiful goals, including the game-winner. Spezza now has 40 points on the year to lead the Senators, and sits four points behind Jaromir Jagr for the league lead.
The Senators desperately needed a win, and it was extra sweet that it came at the expense of former Senator Dominik Hasek. Even more impressive was that the Senators (16-15-1) managed to earn the victory over Detroit (17-8-4) with over of a third of their payroll not on the ice - Wade Redden ($6.5 million), Daniel Alfredsson ($4.677 million) and Martin Gerber ($3.7 million).
The Senators are in Nashville to take on the Central Division-leading Predators Thursday night. Let's hope the two thirds of the payroll that does hit the ice can do it again.
