The Cross Country Saga Ends!

The room looked wonderful --- maybe not for an elegant dinner, but certainly for a bunch of kids at their pasta dinner. We added color themed confetti and decks of cards to each of the tables, cranked up the iPod with some speakers, patted ourselves on the back, and welcomed our guests. The runners loved the space. The party seemed to segregate itself – the runners were downstairs and the adults were upstairs – and everyone was content

So the lesson to be learned here is that we must always remain flexible when we are entertaining. Although we should have a focused vision, and we should intentionally move towards that vision, it’s imperative to keep the needs of our guests as a priority. Put yourself in their shoes, let that be a guide for you, and perhaps modify your vision slightly to make the experience better for your guests.

And the ironic ending to my story is…… the rain NEVER came! Mother Nature had me doing a quickstep to accommodate the guests, and yet it would have been just fine to have the party outdoors. That being said, our guests were much happier with my Plan C scenario because the party space was not muggy, there were no mosquitoes to pester them, and the playing cards that I casually added as a last minute decoration to each table, provided a source for entertainment ranging from “high stakes” poker, to card tricks, to building a house of cards for all the boys. And so the saga ends!
