Thanks to everyone for voting on my housewarming gift poll!
The good news is that EVERYBODY realizes that it's proper etiquette to bring a housewarming gift. The bad news is that there was not a definite "RIGHT" gift. Voters were fairly evenly balanced between giving gifts of food, wine or flowers to the host(ess).
I'm going to go out on a limb and tell you my preference --- I bring a gift that I think the host would most appreciate. I have brought lovely seasonal candles, homemade macaroons, seasonal linens, and a basket of luxury spa items depending on the personal tastes of my hosts.
The point is to make the effort to be a gracious guest and to think of your host's needs.
