If you have a particularly needy guest -- one that either has a physical handicap or just one that needs constant companionship -- approach your function with a game plan. Realize that this guest will need extra attention, and plan accordingly. Divide and conquer should be the rule of the day --- assign various party guests to spend 20-30 minutes at a time with the "special guest" and let them rotate through their duties effortlessly.
The "special guest" will not feel like a burden to anyone, he/she will get to enjoy the company of many different people, and the rotational guests will enjoy helping you.
