After decades of civil war and a disastrous tsunami, Sri Lanka hopes at last for a brighter future.
This little gem of an island has it all, from ancient culture to fine beaches fringed with luxury hotels and cool hill stations tucked among flower gardens and tea plantations.
You can swim or sail, trek in lush nature reserves, past glistening waterfalls and lakes teeming with bird life, or discover fragrant spice gardens, sacred temples and shrines and the most amazing festivals.
It's also a land of coconut palms, delicious food, fine crafts and precious stones, and traditional Ayurveda healing.
