24 Hour Daycare

Today as I was sifting through the news, I came upon a news story about a 24-hour daycare facility that was approved by the Mississippi State Board of Health. Heaven Sent, a daycare center in Scott County, will now be able to offer around the clock daycare for newborn babies and children through the age of 5. This daycare facility offers changing areas, a shower, and a bathtub. In addition, children sleep on mattresses at night instead of mats or cots.

So I decided to do a little bit of research and found that 24 hour daycare facilities are not new. There are plenty of 24-hour daycare centers around the country, and I assume they must be pretty popular and convenient.

I applaud a daycare center that offers extended childcare hours in order to support those parents who work the late shift. I believe that there should be all sorts of affordable daycare options for parents who work regular 9 to 5 shifts, weekend, and nights, or for those who need emergency childcare. However, my second instinct is to think about those parents that will abuse this service. I imagine parents dropping their kids off and flying to Jamaica for a week, but that is the cynic in me. I figure there must be some regulations with regard to how long you can leave your child in the daycare center. I also feel that as a parent I would be concerned with various safety issues. At any rate, I am having a mixed reaction to what is, for me, a new discovery.

I have created a new discussion thread because I would love to get your opinions, comments, and experiences about 24 hour daycare service.

Well, as a single working mom, this is music to my ears. I worked at a casino in Biloxi, MS last year and of course, they stick you on grave yard for being new. Bad news! I did get help from a lady neighborg who kept my 1 y.o. son at night but the headache was during the day when I wanted to sleep, because he didnt!! So what to do there? Double babysitting? Is is possible for them to keep the kids a little longer so we could sleep some? That would be ideal. It's rough to go to work with 4 hrs of sleep every day, I mean, every nite. After all, the kids have the 'normal' schedule, we dont.

I am the owner of a 24 hour licensed facility in Louisiana. In this area we have casinos, hospitals, refineries, single parents, grandparents raising grandchildren this is a much needed service. Of course there are limited hours that a child can be in care. Ofcourse some parents try to abuse the hours but thats the case for any center. It works out for the most part, mostly because it is regulated by the State. It is a wonderful business to many people of all walks of life.

My comment is directed toward the individual who is operating a 24hr licensed facility in Louisiana. I am also from Louisiana and am very interested in opening a facility of this kind. My question is what kind of license would I apply for. Any information would be greatly appreciated - including where I may be able to find the regulations and standards. Thanks. please email me at: jvcare24@yahoo.com Thanks

Hi,

I am the owner of The Village Child Development Center (VCDC) 24 Hour Daycare in Pittsburgh. In this area we have lots of large and growing businesses, most of which operate past traditional work hours.

In addition a large number of people work AND go to school. With the economy the way it is I anticipate a definite rise in the number of student workers not only here in Pittsburgh, but across the country as people seek to acquire FURTHER training to compete in their current occupation or NEW training to enable them to change careers.

Although our Daycare OPERATES 24 Hours a day that doesn't mean we are AVAILABLE 24 Hours a day. The standard is UP TO 10 hours of care. A contract with a specified drop off and pick up time are required. Late fees are incurred when the contract is not adhered to. Discontinuation of service is the final result for habitual late pick ups and/or early drop offs.

We do offer parents early drop off for 3rd shift so the children can get to bed and receive an appropriate amount of rest. (Children sleep in beds not cots)
Parents of 3 year olds and up enjoy our drop off service to area schools and headstart...this ensures proper rest for the parent...lol.

As far as the flying off to Jamaica goes (Snuggs original blog post) lol...We offer "Payday Getaway" so parent/s guardian/s can get a mini vacation whenever they need to...early registration is required. Parents also enjoy our "Free Time Friday" (Parents Night Out) every Friday...once again early registration is required.

We truly believe that it does "Take a Village to Raise a Child" (African Proverb) and we work diligently to provide parents with all the support they need.

24 Hour Daycare is a necessity in this day and age and more will continue to open their doors as the demand for this type of service increases.

I applaud fellow Daycare Owners and Parents who work so hard for the future of our Children and our Country.
