After Dark Horror Festival Day 2

Well, I'm back from day two of the After Dark Horror Film Festival (www.horrorfestonline.com), and I am well pleased with today's crop. Before I do my individual reviews, I wanted to give a quick post about today's rankings.

Coming in last today was the last movie I saw. Penny Dreadful had a very appropriate adjective for the second word in its title. Although it had a good premise, with just poor acting and scenes that lasted longer than the whole festival, this movie was absolutely dreadful.

Bringing up the middle of the pack was The Gravedancers. I'll admit to having doubts about this one, but I enjoyed it. Surprisingly good acting, an interesting plot, and some very creepy moments and effects made this one a great flick.

In first place today, by a mile, is The Abandoned. It has been a long, long time since I have been this pleased with a horror movie that didn't have subtitles. This movie is just plain scary from start to finish, with great acting, good storytelling, and some terrific cinematography. I'll want to see this one again when I get a chance.

So, today the rankings went like this:

1) The Abandoned

2) The Gravedancers

3) Penny Dreadful

And with all of that in mind, my rankings for the festival so far:

1) The Abandoned

2) Reincarnation (Rinne)

3) The Gravedancers

4) Dark Ride

5) Penny Dreadful

6) Unrest

Make sure and check out my actual articles tonight reviewing each of the three movies I saw today.

Tomorrow the festival ends, and I'm really looking forward to the final two films, The Hamiltons and Wicked Little Things.

Until then, keep the lights low.
