A quick note about the first Saw.

Making mistakes if part of writing, and writing about horror movies can be a process wrought with errors. However, though I have gotten a lot of flack over not having Saw in my list of the top horror movies of the last few years, I have my reasons.

First of all, the movie was hyped far too much. Too much was given away in the ads, and I hate that when it comes to a horror movies. We knew the conflict long before we watched it unfold.

Secondly, the sequels have made me lose respect for the first movie. I know that the filmaker died during the second movie, so maybe it wasn't his vision, and the third certainly wasn't, but still, that detracts from my enjoyment of something. When you look at a movie as a whole, and sometimes you have to include sequels in that, you want to have good memories.

Take a look at how Star Wars is being ruined by the prequels if you need an example.

Finally, and this is the biggest, I thought the story was very original, and well done, but it wasn't as horrifying as it could have been. With everyting being told, pretty much in the past tense, I wasn't worried for the characters. Other than the asian detective, who got his head blown off by a shotgun nailed to a wall, the sense of time in the movie was all askewed.

While others will agrue that is the genius behind the movies, I just can't agree. I loved the ending of the first movie, and enjoyed the way it was shot. But above all else, I never cared for the characters, and thus I never felt like I was watching a horror movie.

Horror movies scare you, because you associate with the people.

Don't get me wrong, I think Saw is good for what it is, that is why I didn't put it, but its sequels on the top ten worst list of horror movies.

Maybe you disagree. Either way, take a look at my articles about the top ten best and the top ten worst horror movies of the last few years. I am sure many will disagree, but these are my choices, and I like them. If you want to argue, send me an email.

Keep an eye out for my sci-fi movie lists coming soon. Oh and also, download the trailer for The Messangers, a horror flick coming out soon. It looks great.

Until later, keep the lights low.
