If you're looking for some light reading - and, if you love a good mystery - try Boris Akunin's Fandorin mysteries. They've been translated (rather poorly, I might add) into English, but the plots are great fun and the characters are clear cut and sometimes humorously portrayed.
Erast Fandorin, hearthrob and international man of mystery, is the main character of the amazingly popular series. Quiet, stammering, startlingly handsome, and quicker-witted than all of his fellow characters put together, this Russian uber-sleuth takes readers around the world and always leaves them surprised at the end.
The first book in the series is entitled The Winter Queen. Also look for The Turkish Gambit, Death of Achilles, and my personal favorite(so far), Murder on the Leviathan.
