I don’t know about you, but here at Folk101 we just love women folk singers, especially those who wear flannel shirts and have rich, piercing voices with a country twang.
The most recent object of our affection comes in the form of Sera Cahoone. She is a fantastic singer/songwriter/drummer based in Seattle, and her music reflects that sort of rainy day ethos we have come to expect from that community of musicians. Now, her eponymous debut album came out earlier this year, and we apologize for being late in bring it to your attention.
However, those who follow this site and folk music closely will know that this lovely lady already received a nod—albeit an indirect one—in the folk music section of Suite101.com. A few months ago, we ran a review of the stellar record from Band of Horses, Everything All The Time. Well, Sera plays drums on several tracks and was no small part in creating the group’s unique, critically-acclaimed sound. She has also toured with Iron and Wine, among other well-known folk acts.
Now, back to that flannel shirt, Sera sports one on the cover of the album, and for us, it just screams the underlying character of this album. It's laid back, unpretentious, folky and country at the same time.
Check back later and Folk101 cooks up the full review. Until then.
Oh, and one more thing, here at the site we will be returning to a more regular schedule. Thanks to those of you who have continued reading. And remember to tell your friends!
