Good morning folk fans around the world.
It is suppose to be a balmy six degrees Celsius today in Montreal. That means that any of the snow that fell last week will be gone and its remnants will be dripping on my head from the upstairs balcony every time I leave the house.
Gee, it’s like there’s something wrong with the planet or something.
Anyway, our collective December may not be too cold here in Quebec, but there is a definite chill in the air. Perhaps it’s coming from Portland’s The Decemberists and their ongoing fake feud with Stephen Colbert of the Colbert Report.
For those of you who missed my blog last week. Here’s a quick refresher: folksters The Decemberists created a contest to finish their latest video. Colbert claimed the band was copying a recent contest of his, and challenges his viewers to edit him into the aforementioned video.
Well, for those of you scoring at home, The Decemberists have now offered a counter-challenge, demanding Colbert put his guitar where is mouth is. He promptly accepted and revealed that he was once a member of the fictional New Wave group, Stephen & The Colberts.
Who will win? Who knows, but the deal goes down on December 20 on the Colbert Report.
Oh yeah, and the Decemberists have decided to press their luck once again by announcing a t-shirt contest. The winner will design a shirt to go along with the band’s song “The Island.” What’s next, a East coast-West coast rivalry with Hanes?
Here at Folk101, we never encourage violence or conflict. However, just for the record, we do appreciate and, in fact, egg-on fake feuds.
If only Tupac had learned this lesson. He might be alive today, having given up that whole rap thing, making beautiful folk albums. I bet he would have done at least one album of Bob Dylan covers by now.
