Cat owners who want to ensure that their cats will not be euthanized or confined to cages for life in the event that their human guardians die should make arrangements with a cat retirement home or adoption service. Before paying fees and signing legal documents, however, they should visit the facilities and check the non-profit names at GuideStar and the Better Business Bureau to ensure that these organizations provide the loving care and cage-free living that they promise.
The following retirement homes take cats only. Local animal shelters and rescue organizations may be able to recommend additional local resources, and many cat retirement homes take out-of-state placements.
