Anne Rice - October 4 - This contemporary New Orleans-based author is best known for her vampire mysteries, including Interview with a Vampire and the Vampire Lestat.
Helen MacInnes - October 7 - The Scottish, 20th century author, famous for her espionage mysteries, including The Salzburg Connection and Message from Malaga.
P G Wodehouse - October 15 - The versatile and prolific 20th century English author, best known today for his character, Jeeves the Butler.
Ed McBain (Evan Hunter) - October 15 - Under a variety of pseudonyms, this American author published other 150 crime fiction novels, collections of short stories, and screenplays. He is best known for writing the original screenplay for Alfred Hitchcock's movie, The Birds, and for his 87th Precinct crime novels.
John LeCarre - October 19 - The master of the Cold War spy novel, his works include The Spy who Came in from the Cold, Smiley's People, and the Little Drummer Girl. His latest novel, The Mission Song, was just published in September.
Michael Crichton - October 23 - The author of Jurassic Park, Congo, and the Andromeda Strain, his science fiction-style mysteries continue to delight. His latest novel, Next, is due to be published in late November.
Dick Francis - October 31 - A British author and former jockey, he is known for his dozens of mystery novels, most of which feature the racing world and horses. His latest, Under Orders, was just published in September.
