For a lovely and unique fall centerpiece, grow sunflowers! Try this arrangement: Contrast maroon blooms with lighter colored sunflowers. Contrast large and small. I especially like the heirloom varieties.
A very beautiful Autumn arrangement includes sunflowers, with orange roses and solidago in a basket, with berry stems and autum leaf trimmings.
Sunflower and Florist Tip:
To coax your sunflowers into producing a large cutable stem, cut the top head off after it blooms. This triggers the heads below to "think" they need to grow long stems before they bloom. The longer stems make flower arrangements easier.
The time-honered Cornucopia Centerpiece of Autumn
Go to a craft store and buy the cornucopia basket. Decorate with vegetables from your own garden, add sunflowers and assorted nuts and berries.
