The Fat March finale proved that obese contestants were able to walk more than 570 miles, from Boston to Washington, D.C. The pressure they felt from the exhausting walk took a toll on their bodies, as well as their friendships.
There is a clear division among the team on theFat March and the tension is palpable. Contestants even throw around the idea of forfeiting so that no one gets any money at the finish line. Just the thought of this angers the other contestants and tempers flare.
Despite knee injuries and overwhelming fatigue, six Fat March contestants were able to complete the journey with the encouragement of the trainers. They crossed the finish line and were overjoyed to see their families and loved ones waiting for them and cheering them on.
Each contestant that was either voted off or had to quit due to injuries cost the team $10,000 from the jackpot. Only six contestants remained after 40 plus days of walking and camping. They were rewarded with $40,000 each and then hopped on the scale to see their real rewards from the journey.
The women averaged a 50 pound loss each, which is a good amount of weight to lose for a little over a month. The men lost as much as 85 pounds in the same amount of time. Their transformations are obvious and their excitement is contagious. Suddenly the long walk and the pain all seem worth it.
Contestants hope to serve as an inspiration to couch potatoes everywhere to get up and start walking. Though the Fat March was on for a short season, I thought it was inspiring for overweight people. It showed that anybody can lose the weight if they jusy commit themselves, even if they start their walking journey at more than 400 pounds.
