500 Pound and 1000 Pound Guests

Dr. Phil's guests were beyond overweight. They were morbidly obese with a high risk of death. The woman he spoke to weighed 500 pounds. She had a hard time walking and was basically confined to her house. Though it was difficult and painful for her, she could go out using a wheelchair that was too small for her. The big issue with her case was how she was treating her 15-year-old daughter and making her take all the responsibility around the house --- even emptying her mom's bathroom bucket that was kept in the living room! It was obvious she needed help with her weight, but I'm not sure Dr. Phil could get through to her because she seemed to be defending her behavior and saying she was happy and content with herself, just not her body. Being in denial, she may have a harder time losing weight and keeping it off.

Dr. Phil's next guest was a 35-year-old man who was estimated to weight 1000 pounds. He was confined to his bedroom and relied on freinds for help. His mother didn't understand and sent him hundreds of dollars worth of food. He was in pain and realized that he could just not wake up tomorrow because of his obesity. He even had a heart attack without realizing it. He wants and needs help, but first he needs to address his enablers to make sure they don't sabbatoge his efforts at losing weight.

Dr. Phil gave these contestants the resources and knowledge they needed to get started a healthier new lifestyle. He equipped them with the tools they needed to lose weight. But more than that, he restored their hope and he may have saved their lives.
