Hi from the Urban Travel writer!

Hello and Welcome to Urban Travel!

I'm Rae, the brand-new Urban Travel writer here at Suite101. I've spent a lot of time both living and exploring in citiies and I hope to share lots of fun stuff and helpful advice to all of you. You don't always have to get away from the city to take a break and the "urban countryside" can offer lots of adventure. I’ve lived my life car-free so far, so the common city-dweller activity of leaving the city and going someplace rural hasn’t really been in my repertoire.

I've lived on both the East and West Coasts, with a liberal sprinkling of visits to many places in between. I feel very lucky that I had parents who felt traveling was important and educational, and I’d seen most of the United States before I was in high school. From watching TV, many people think that everything is pretty much the same everywhere, but when you get out on the street, you often find there are dozens of wonderful little differences and details. At the age of eight, I was amazed to find out that the “sprinkles” on my ice cream at home in New Jersey were “jimmies” when we went to Boston. Learning that sure made it easier when I finished high school and visited London, where my beloved fries became “chips” and my chips became “crisps.”

Please let me know if you have anything you'd really like me to write about, or if you have any questions!
