One thing I miss about living in San Francisco was how balmy it could be at the end of October. Here in Seattle, we're waiting for constant rain to start anytime now, but back in the Bay Area, it's time to think up a Halloween outfit and you don't have to worry about wearing a coat with it.
As a kid growing up on the East Coast, Halloween always meant having to dress as something that incorporated a coat, or a costume large enough to fit a coat underneath it. Since my housemates have a pet parrot, there's been some talk of us dressing as pirates and getting the bird in on the act.
We don't really get frost here, not for a bit, but summer's clearly flown the coop. And don't forget that this weekend, we "fall" back too. If there's one thing that says "winter" in Seattle, it's the increasingly early darkness.
