Five Biggest Housekeeping Pitfalls
Felton suggests that the following are the areas that cause the greatest disorganisation.
- Storage or Organisation –maintaining tidy closets, drawers and other storage areas. Can you find what you need, when you need it? Could someone else find what they need quickly? Is an avalanche of items likely whenever a cupboard door is opened?
- Neatness – tidy and well kept living areas. Do you rush about the house before visitors arrive trying to clear up the mess? Does an unexpected visitor send you into a panic?
- Paper – documents, mail, craft, advertising, newspapers and magazines. Is your study cluttered with papers stacked on every available flat surface? Do you keep interesting articles from magazines, never to look at them again (assuming that you could find them if you needed them)? Do you struggle with the thought of throwing out any piece of paper containing information of any sort?
- Bills and Banking – paying bills, balancing checkbooks, filing statements. Do you routinely forget to pay bills until the second reminder notice? Are you unsure what your bank balance is or how much you have owing on your credit card?
- Collecting – Mementoes, hobbies, treasures. Do you have every birthday card you have ever received? Is your wardrobe full of ill-fitting clothes that you can’t throw away because you wore them during a special time in your life?
Why not jump on the Discussion boards and share which of Felton’s pitfalls is your biggest challenge. I confess that paper clutter causes me the most headaches. For some tips on how to conquer these issues, browse though Home Management and pick up some ideas.
