I thoroughly enjoyed browsing around the stalls at the Hawke's Bay Farmers Market. I wish we'd had more time to thoroughly explore and taste all of the products available, particularly the specialty meats and cheeses which are difficult to come by where I live. Although our supermarkets have deli-bars, we no longer have a dedicated delicatessen where one can buy really good quality meats, cheeses, olives and preserves.
I also loved the displays of fruits and vegetables which looked so fresh and colourful. Huge bunches of silver beet, whole stalks of brussel sprouts and boxes of delicious crisp red apples. I can't say I'm a marvellous cook but I do enjoy cooking ,and love to use quality ingredients. With so much of our food being 'fast' and processed and full of taste enhancers, I wonder whether many of us even have knowledge of what really good, fresh food tastes like - home baking, a roast dinner, a beef stew braised in its own juices - that's what I call good cooking!
