Work began this week on an expansion of the Panama Canal. Once completed, the canal will be wide enough to allow the wider, more bulky ships of today to pass through the canal.
The project is expected to take seven years to complete at a lovingly low, low cost of just $5.2 billion.
The canal originally took 34 years to build between 1880 and 1914.
