Terri Paajanen's BlogPosted by Terri Paajanen Well I'm no scientist so I can't make any claims of my own, but I looked online and it seems like this is another one of those pesky urban legends that is again making the rounds. There is a very good article at About Urban Legends that can explain the details, but the bottom line is that the plastic in water bottles is tested and does not leach "toxins" when heated. Though a car can get very hot when the windows are closed, it's no where near hot enough to start making molecular changes in plastic. Burning plastic can create some nasty stuff, like dioxin, which is possibly why people are buying into this particular legend. Posted by Terri Paajanen Though drinking plain water is probably the healthiest thing you can drink, especially when it's hot, there are lots of other icy cold drinks that can help keep your day cooler: So get creative and make a pitcher of something a little different today. Posted by Terri Paajanen Possibly the oddest and most unpleasant drink I have heard of yet. A mix of bean broth, honey, aloe vera, maca root and a whole skinned frog is blended like a milkshake and served hot. People in Lima, Peru have this daily, much like we might have a morning cup of coffee. I really don't think this is something I could stomach, no matter what the health benefits This was recently reported on CNN. Posted by Terri Paajanen A recent report says that Coca Cola Co. is going to be offering a new version of Diet Coke, enhanced with vitamins. The new drink will be called Diet Coke Plus and is expected to be released sometime this spring. I guess if McDonald's can serve deli sandwiches, then I guess Coka can get healthier. Not much other information is available, but you can read the news story on CNN. Posted by Terri Paajanen I always have a hard time stirring powdered spices into a cup of coffee, though I love the flavours. So if you want to spice up your coffee and hate working with ground spices, try adding them before you brew your coffee. If you are using a regular drip coffee maker, add a 1/2 tsp of ground cinnamon to the coffee grounds before starting the brew cycle. Or even add 5 or 6 whole cloves. Or both. Whatever spices you like in your coffee can be added this way, leaving you with flavourful coffee without all the messing stirring. An added bonus is that the aroma from your spicy additions will fill the house as your coffee is brewing. |
