Arrested
The dormitory matron was fired soon after Oprah's personal investigative team investigated the allegations at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls. On Thursday, Nov. 1st, the 27-year-old woman was arrested. Police have stated that at least seven victims have come forward to make statements.
School's Website
Winfrey has posted a statement on the school's website, "I'd like to thank the South African Police Services for bringing this investigation at my Academy to a timely resolution. I am grateful for their compassion and sensitivityto the girls during this difficult time. It means the world to me. It is my deepest hope that the accused is brought to justice and that this serves as a reminder that any time a child has the courage to step forward, it is our duty as adults to listen and take immediate action."
Fulfilling a Promise
Oprah made a promise to Nelson Mandela to begin a school for girls and overcome apartheid. On January 2nd of 2007 she fulfilled that promise with a lavish $40 million project in the heart of South Africa.
