According to forecasters, Hurricane John is predicted to approach Ixtapa and Puerto Vallarta, in Mexico, by Wednesday, leaving behind it a trail of flooding and mudslides.
At least 8 inches of rain is expected to fall on several coastal community near Lagunas de Chacahua in Oaxaca north to Cabo Corrientes, just south of Puerto Vallarta. The hurricane, centered at 175 miles south of Acapulco, is currently moving northwest at 10 mph. It is not expected to hit land, however.
